Argent Tournament GuideBy ArgentSun on 04/25/2009 at 6:30 PM PST

Update: Patch 3.1.2 introduced new mounts and reduced costs for existing mounts! See the Rewards section for more details! The cold winds of the north blow over the frigid icy glaciers of Icecrown. The sun barely reaches the frozen lands with its rays. The Lich King gathers his power, his Scourge minions planting destruction everywhere. Bloodthirsty Vrykul shout promises to eviscerate adventurers too foolish to enter their lands. Yet, in the northernmost corner of the great glacier, something defies the self-proclaimed true king's threats. Workers' sweat flows like rivers, as hired hands build a Coliseum. Mounts scream in pain or triumph as their riders - men and women representing all the peoples of Azeroth - fight to prove their worthiness to members of the Argent Tournament and their own war factions. Despite the imminent danger of the Lich King, despite the hatred between King Varian and Garosh Hellscream, and despite the weather for which "harsh" would be a soft word, the heroes of Azeroth battle to determine who will face the horror Arthas has turned into...and who will go home. Mount up, grab your lance and ride to battle, brothers and sisters! Joust in the name of the Argent Crusade! Give your blood for the Horde and endure all pain for the Alliance! Ride, ride, to the Argent Tournament! Table of Contents What is the Argent Tournament? How do I fight in The Tournament? How do I Joust? Seals Quests Rewards Achievements To explain the Argent Tournament, there are a few things we need to look at. Let's start with some basic introduction: What is the Argent Tournament? The Argent Tournament is a new event, introduced in Patch 3.1. It is located in the north-east corner of Icecrown, just north of Sindragosa's Fall. It involves a number of quests, many of which focus on mounted combat - players riding vehicles and simulating jousting. The quest rewards are various Seals, which can be used to purchase weapons, tabards, non-combat pets, and even mounts. The Horde's main assistants and guides in the Tournament are the Sunreavers, while the Alliance is being guided by the Silver Covenant. Currently the Argent Tournament Grounds look as work under construction. And they are. The Coliseum is far from being complete - in fact, only its skeleton can be seen now. Both the Alliance and the Horde are given no more than a tent and stables. But as time goes by and new patches come, the place will become more and more developed, more quests and rewards will be revealed. To prevent not-so-honorable combat from happening, players in the Argent Tournament Grounds are affected by Armistice, which prevents them from fighting members of the opposite faction, unless during a mounted duel. How do I fight in the Tournament? Joining the ranks of the fighters in the Tournament is very easy. All one needs to do is go the Argent Tournament Grounds in Icecrown, enter the Argent Tent, and talk to Justicar Mariel Trueheart. She will direct you to either The Sunreavers if you are member of the Horde, or The Silver Covenant if you belong to the Alliance. She will also send you to the Blasbolt brothers, who are two goblins responsible for the building of the Coliseum. From there on, your factions will direct you to the appropriate quests. How Do I Joust? Jousting is simple to start and hard to master. To begin you only need to pick a Lance from your faction's tent (or automatically obtain one from any of the quests), and then mount on one of the stabled mounts outside. And you are all set! Just keep in mind that you can only ride mounts of the factions you have become Champion with, and your own home faction. When you mount, you will notice a few spells you can use: When jousting, you will need a strategy of some sort in order to win. One of the more basic ones is stacking your Defend 3 times before the duel, then keeping your enemy at a distance, toss a Shield-Breaker whenever possible to reduce his or her Defend. Remember to keep yours up! When the enemy is vulnerable, Charge and Thrust them, and then re-establish the distance, using Shield-Breaker again. Seals The Argent Tournament quests and rewards work with an alternative currency - Seals. All players start as Aspirants with their race and have quests available with only them. Quests at this level award Aspirant's Seal. Total of 15 Aspirant's Seals are required to advance to the next rank - Valiant. Quests now award Valiant's Seal, and you need total of 25 of those to advance to the final rank in the Tournament - Champion. Daily quests at this level award Champion's Seal, which are used to purchase rewards from one of the Quartermasters located in your faction's Tent. After becoming a Champion with your home faction, you can choose another faction to work with. Fortunately, when taking a second faction, you no longer need to go through the basic Aspirant training - you start as a Valiant. Quests Rankless Justicar Mariel Trueheart will simply send you to talk to Arcanist Taelis/Magister Elien Sunhollow. Congratulations, you are now an Aspirant! Justicar Mariel Trueheart will also ask you to talk to Bezzle Blastbolt and see how you can help him and his brother with the construction of the coliseum. Use your Goblin Chisel near Small Stone Blocks to make them go BOOM! Each Block will leave 1-4 Small Stone Blocks, and you need 15 of those. Use your Lumberjack's Axe near Crystalsong Oaks to acquire the 12 Rough Hewn Planks needed. Aspirant Mastery of Melee, Mastery of the Shield-Breaker & Mastery of the Charge The three quests are offered by NPCs of your race in your faction's tent. This means that you will not be able to purchase an Elekk unless you have 50 Seals and are Champion of the Exodar. Such restriction barely applies to weapons and armor, as they are sold by all the Quartermasters. Also, the Horde and Alliance weapons & armor have identical stats, just different names.
